Alumni Spotlight

If you know an Abbott Tech alumnus that you want to spotlight, or want to let us know what you’ve been doing since graduation, email us.

Amanda Fairclough

I graduated in 2004 from the Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning program. While I was there, I chose to specialize in the sheet metal fabrication aspect of the trade. Beginning my sophomore year, I competed in the Connecticut SkillsUSA sheet metal competition. That year I placed second. I continued to compete and finished first both my junior and senior years. I placed fourth both years at the national competition in Kansas City. To me, it was a great experience and would recommend it to anyone interested in pursuing their trade. Where I excelled in shop, I also did well in my academic courses, graduating second in my class. Upon graduating, I went to work at Carmine’s Plumbing, Heating and Air Conditioning to do sheet metal fabrication. My job involves fabricating ductwork for our installations, be it a complete system or a few fittings. I also work with different metals to make specialty projects for our customers and basically anything that can’t be bought from a supply house. Today, I am still working at Carmine’s, doing what I do best.

Carmine Iapaluccio III

I am a 2003 Henry Abbott Tech graduate of the HVAC department. During my time at Abbott Tech, I excelled in my trade and academics. I participated in SkillsUSA-VICA, and came in first place in the state of Connecticut my senior year. Before I went to the nationals, I broke my leg. I still managed to compete in a wheelchair and placed ninth. Upon graduating, I went to work for the family business, Carmine’s Plumbing, Heating and Air Conditioning, as a HVAC service technician. On a daily basis, I service and repair all types of heating and cooling equipment. I continue to stay actively involved in the school by sitting on the trade committee. By doing this, I help to guide the program in a technologically changing industry. I find this rewarding because I am helping the school that I came from.
